项目摘要

最終年度である2020年度は、これまでの研究成果から得られた知見を総括した博士論文を完成させた。以下、その概要について述べる。1990年代以降の日本社会では、進学率の上昇や未婚化・晩婚化、若年労働市場の流動化により、若者が親元を離れて自身の住まいを確立することが困難になっている。しかしこうした困難は、もともと不利な層に偏って生じている可能性が指摘できる。そこで本研究では、親世帯からの独立における出身階層間格差について、東大社研パネル調査、全国家族調査、SSM調査などの社会調査データの計量分析によって検討した。分析の結果、第1に、1990年代以降の若年層では成人期への移行の指標となるライフイベントの経験に遅れや多様化が進行していることが明らかとなった。また、彼らの親世代の収入・資産額の低下や雇用状況の悪化も確認され、若年層の成人期への移行の困難化とそれをサポートする立場にある親の経済的な弱体化が同時に進行していることが示された。第2に、若年層の親との援助関係には出身階層による格差が生じていることが明らかになった。具体的には、父親の学歴が高いほど、経済的援助や情緒的・実践的援助を親から受けやすいことが示された。第3に、親から経済的援助を受けることや、女性ではそれに加えて情緒的・実践的援助を受けることで、スムーズで安定的な親世帯からの独立が可能となることが示された。以上の実証分析の結果を総合し、従来見落とされてきた親世帯からの独立における出身階層間格差の存在について議論した。上位の階層出身者は、親から援助を受けることで構造的な不利をキャンセルし、安定的な独立を実現できる。一方で、相対的に不利な階層出身者はそのようなサポートが得られず、親世帯からの独立に困難を抱えている。このように、若年層の親世帯からの独立には、親からの援助を介した出身階層間格差が生じていることが明らかとなった。
