项目摘要

多読により学習者は大量の読み物を読みながら、読みのプロセスの下位処理の自動化を発達させると考えられる。このため読みの流暢さ、特に読む速度が増すと考えられる。この時に処理速度が速くなるだけではなく、学習者の中間言語に質的な変化が生じ、中間言語の構造に変化が起きているのではないかと言える。本研究では、多読により読みの下位処理の自動化が起こり、読みの速度のみならず、学習者の中間言語、特に、文法・統語知識に影響を及ぼすのかどうかを検証する。更に、リーディングとライティングはともに文字情報が関与し、両者は深く関わりがあると言われる(Hirvela, 2016)。多読を継続的に行うことにより、学習者のライティング力はどのような時系列的変化をみせるのかを検証する。研究協力者として、髙瀬敦子氏、大槻きょう子氏に研究に加わって頂いた。上記目的に対して、2022年度は以下を実施した。（１）授業内外で一年間多読を行った学習者（多読群）と多読を行わず、ストラテジー訓練や精読を行った学習者（統制群）に約300語の英語伝記文の要約を書いてもらった。propositionsとcoherence（一貫性）の観点から分析した結果、両群とも要約文を書く力に発達が見られたが、多読群の方が全般的により詳細、かつ一貫性のある要約文を書いており、多読を部分的にでも活用することが書く力の発達に寄与すると思われた。（２）多読を通して学習者の中間言語の構造にどのような質的変化が起きているのかを測定するため、伝記文要約の中で学習者が産出した中間言語の構造として、動詞の項に焦点をあて、多読群と統制群間での時系列的変化の分析を検討した。（３）更に、同目的のために、プログラム開始時と終了時に収集したEdinburgh Project on Extensive Reading (EPER)プレイスメント・プログレステストの特性構造を分析した。
