東台湾の官営移民村・吉野村の運営における武者小路実篤の「新しき村」の影響を、清水半平著『官営移民吉野村回想録』を用いて分析した。回想録の中には具体的記述はないが、清水半平の孫・一也氏への聞き取り調査で、清水半平が『新しき村』を読んで感動したと生前話していた、という事実を確認した。永住の覚悟でやってきた移民たちの「現実的な村」である吉野村の運営に、「理想の村」である「新しき村」はどのような影響を及ぼしたのか、回想録から明らかにすることを試みた。吉野村と「新しき村」との関係を、『官営移民吉野村回想録』と「新しき村」に関する著書である『人間らしく生きるために―新しき村について―』『「新しき村」の百年』『新しき村の創造』との比較を中心に分析を行った。6項目ほどに絞り込んだが、その中で特に「協力主義」「共産制」に注目した。新しき村における「協力主義」は、吉野村では「組合員が一致団結すれば不可能ということはない」という信念に現れ、「共産制」は、「富裕者を作るより貧乏人をなくそう」「共産制でない限り、真の和合はあり得ない」という考え方に見られる。今年度は特に聞き取り調査に力を入れた。その中で特筆すべきは、吉野村村民だった備後八郎氏（100歳）と、台湾日本語世代の少年飛行隊員であり、かつシベリア抑留体験も有する希有な存在の呉正男氏（95歳）である。備後八郎氏の聞き取り中に、兄の次雄氏が自叙伝を書いていたことを思い出され、その後、自宅に存在することが確認された。貴重な資料であり、発掘できたことは自分史研究において大きな成果と考えている。一方呉氏は「シベリア抑留は自分にとって幸運であった」と述べているが、このような発言は私の知る限りでは唯一のものである。シベリア抑留のみならず、台湾日本語世代の研究もより深まる可能性が出てきた。聞き取り調査に加え、呉氏からの資料提供も研究の進展に欠かせない。
