项目摘要

本研究は日本人学生の英文エッセイにおける非ネイティブらしさの一因がメタディスコース名詞の使い方だと考え、この種の名詞の使い方の教授で学生の議論型エッセイがどう向上するかを検証する。初年度(2021)に名詞の使い方のどのポイントを指導するべきかを発表する予定であったが、執筆、出版に時間を要し昨年度(2022)に論文発表した：Tahara (2022) Japanese students’ Difficulties with Metadiscursive Nouns in Argumentation Essays. English Language Teaching 15(6).特にa)後方照応、b)一つに焦点を絞った意味説明を教える必要性を指摘した。メタディスコース名詞の指導は、議論型エッセイで多用されるProblem-Solutionテキストパターンを書くことを通じておこなう。ここで直面したのがどの名詞を教授対象とするかという問題である。メタディスコース名詞は一般名詞で、分析するコーパス次第で多くの一般名詞がメタディスコース名詞として機能する。つまり万能の数少ない限定的な名詞がない。過去の文献からランダムに名詞を選び、意味回復のやり方を指導することも考えたが、指導を通じて効果的にProblem-Solutionの形成を学べると思われる名詞を探して教授することとした。そのためにProblem-Solutionと深く関係するCausal relation（原因・理由）意味パターンを形成するメタディスコース名詞に絞って指導することを考えた。現在その代表名詞problemが形成するCausal relationの違いがProblem-Solutionの違いとして現れるか検証し、肯定的な結果を得て論文を執筆中で、本年度(2023)なるべく早くに出版する予定である。
