项目摘要

次の点で、研究実績を積むことができた。まず初めに、start NPという起動表現がなぜほかの起動表現にない名詞句を補部にとることができるのかについて、従来のコーパスの量的調査のみならず、質的調査を行って、意味の観点から明らかにした。英語コーパス学会第48回大会における口頭発表において、The British National Corpusからの用例を援用しながら、start NPの補部にくる名詞句には、startが使役性の意味が強いことから起動後に自ら動いたり、進展していくものがくるのではないかということを実証的に示した。次に、他動性という概念からヒントを得て、起動動詞startの持つ他動性の強さが補部にくる名詞句の違いに影響を与えているのではないかという主張をまとめて日本英文学会関西支部第17回大会にて口頭発表にて行い、フロアの先生方からレジスターの観点からさらなる分析が可能である旨のご助言をいただいた。最後に、補部に形容詞がくるパタンの起動表現get, growの補部に関しての調査を行い、関西英語語法文法研究会にて発表を行った。英英学習辞書の記述を出発点に、Close(1975)などに見られる補部の形容詞の性質の分析等にみられる問題点を指摘し、コーパスに反例がみられることを示した。現在は、起動動詞come, get, growの補部にくる形容詞の性質の一般化に向けて考察を進めていき理論を詰めていくことに努めている。
