The aim of the collaborative research centre 416 is the chemical and biological synthesis and transformation of important bioactive natural products and their analogues. For this purpose, highly efficient and selective synthetic methods will be developed and employed. A point of emphasis is the use of catalytic procedures. In addition, the enzymatic potential of Nature - either directly or after gene technical variation - will be exploited. An integral part of the project is the investigation of the biological activity of the prepared compounds and a clarification of their mode of action. The collaborative research centre 416 shall provide a better access to some important and interesting natural products and their analogues by developing new chemical and biochemical methods on the one hand, and on the other hand contribute to a deeper understanding of important interactions of biological systems.
