2021年より新型コロナウイルス感染症蔓延防止対策として，ワクチン接種が進められ，それに伴い，筋肉内注射の手技に関して注目が集まっている．注射部位として従来から選択されてきた肩峰三横指下の他に，前後腋窩線と肩峰中央部からの垂直線との交点の部位が合併症を避けられる新たな部位として報告されているが，この部位の刺入深度に関する調査は少ない．そのため，2022年度は，三角筋への筋注実施時の刺入部位と深度についての実態調査として，全国の250床以上の医療施設，および無作為に抽出した人口30,000人以上の自治体に協力が得られた施設，自治体へアンケートを郵送，対象者へ配布を依頼し，臨床および臨地の場において，筋注を実施した医療従事者に対し，刺入部位と深度を中心に接種方法の現状を把握し，課題を明らかにした．回答者のうち7割が新たな刺入部位である前後腋窩線と肩峰中央部からの交点の部位の接種を行っていた．8割以上の回答者は刺入深度の調整を行っていると回答したが，深度を決定する場合の判断基準は，見た目での体格や触診して筋肉の厚みを見るなど，個人の判断によって異なる指標を基にしていることが明らかとなった．使用している針の長さにもばらつきが見られ，何mm挿入したかではなく，針の何分の何を挿入するなど，深度の基準が曖昧な回答も見られたため，確かな刺入深度の確立に向けた実証検査を今後行っていきたい．
