项目摘要

今年度は、日本手話学会の研究発表大会において、＜手話言語における「心」＞というテーマで、研究発表を行なった。その趣旨は、日本語で言う「心」という言葉が、手話言語においては、どのように表現されるのかを明らかにすることである。まずは、いくつかの手話辞典によるならば、「心」は二つの身体部位を指示することによって表現される。一つは「腹」であり、もう一つは「胸」である。たとえば、「心構え」においては、まず腹を指さし、「心変わり」の場合は、まず胸の前で円を描き、胸を指示する等々。しかし、私たちの研究グループで議論されたことは、こうした手話表現は、補助的な表現形態であり、場合によっては、聴者が意識され、いわゆるコードスイッチングがなされたうえでの表現なのではないかということである。では、そのような「心」に関わる手話言語固有の表現形態とは、いかなるものなのか。それは、「心構え」や「心変わり」について、そのつどの具体的な内容を表現するというものである。たとえば、彼に会うとすれば、それなりの心構えが必要だということであれば、実際に必要なことを具体的に表現する。その必要なものが「心構え」そのものなのである。このように見るならば、手話言語固有の表現においては、日本語で言う「心」なるものは、実は存在しないのではないかということにもなりうるのである。これが、当発表の趣旨だが、それはまた、手話言語の重要な特性を提示してもいる。それは、言語表現は一般に概念的な普遍性に基づいてなされるわけだが、手話言語においては、そこに強い個別的な性格が投影するということである。その性格は、手話言語の根底にある画像思考において際立つ。そして、このことが、私の目下の主要研究テーマである、マクダウェルのヘーゲル論において、重要な意味をもちうる。すなわち、私たちの行為の根拠づけは、内からの個別的判断によるということである。
