本研究の目的は、ソ連時代のロシアを中心に、映画などの大衆向けメディアにおいて住宅という空間がどのように表象されてきたのか、またそのイメージがどのようなイデオロギー的意味・役割を担っていたのかを明らかにすることである。十月革命直後から１９２０年代のロシアでは、フリードリヒ・エンゲルスの住宅論からの影響や、家父長的な家族制度に対する批判から、家族単位の住宅は否定されるべきものとみなされていた。その結果、帝政時代から続く住宅難も相まって、革命後のロシアの都市部では、大多数の住民はバラックや「コムナルカ（коммунарка）」と呼ばれる集合住宅で、共同生活を送っていた。コムナルカとは、貴族やブルジョワなどの邸宅を政府が接収し、その内部を小部屋に区切って、都市近郊に住む労働者に分配したものである。ボリシェヴィキは、１９１７年から１９１８年にかけてこのような強制的な住宅の再分配を行い、住宅難の克服と家族の解体という二つの目的を同時に達成したと主張した。同時期のソ連映画も、コムナルカやドム・コムーナと呼ばれる共同住宅を描いている。しかし、なぜかその数は決して多いとは言えない。令和４年度の研究では、コムナルカでの生活を詳細に描いたいわば例外的な映画作品である、アブラム・ローム『第三メシチャンスカヤ通り』（１９２７年）を中心に、コムナルカという空間が映画内でどのように位置づけられ、さらにそこに当時の家族廃絶論や性愛観がどのように反映されていたのかを分析した。それを通して、なぜそもそもコムナルカやそこでの共同生活が同時代の映画のテーマにされにくかったのかを論じた。これらの議論の成果は、表象文化論学会およびThe 11th East Asian Conference on Slavic Eurasian Studiesなどにおいて報告した。
