初年度の2022年度は、園城寺所蔵天台関係聖教のうち、特に法明院所蔵聖教についての調査を実施した。法明院本は現在、大津市歴史博物館に寄託されているため、本課題の調査においては、園城寺における所蔵本の調査と大津市歴史博物館における調査とを並行して行っている。園城寺における法明院本調査は計画通り順調に進んだ。一方、大津市歴史博物館での調査については、法明院本の点数が大変多いため、来年以降も引き続き継続して進める。調査の過程で、中世の三井寺を解明できる資料も見つかり、調査撮影の上、精査研究が必要である。園城寺所蔵本の比較検討のために、叡山文庫の調査も行った。叡山文庫においても、園城寺関係資料を見いだすことができた。また日蓮宗の総本山身延山久遠寺の身延文庫における聖教調査も実施した。身延の学僧は中世において盛んに園城寺に遊学しているため、現在の園城寺では失われた聖教の転写本が所蔵されている場合が多くある。今年度の調査においても、園城寺における学問がうかがえる資料を調査することができた。その結果については、天台宗教学大会において学会発表をして成果報告を行った。身延山久遠寺にはまだ多くの園城寺関係資料が所蔵されているため、次年度以降も継続して調査を実施する予定である。今年度の研究の成果として、西教寺文庫の調査を行ったことが挙げられる。天台真盛宗の総本山西教寺にも、園城寺関係資料や天台談義資料が所蔵されていて、この度、調査の許可を得ることができて調査を開始した。調査の結果、予想以上に園城寺関係資料を有することが判明して多くの成果を得た。今年度で調査を終了できず、次年度以降も継続調査することとした。
