本年度の研究においては、まずカタコンベ出土の墓碑銘から描き出すユダヤ人会堂と対比すべく、その対比対象であるローマ市内の原始教会の様子を、使徒パウロが執筆したローマ書簡を精査することをとおして確認する作業に時間を割いた。これによって、ユダヤ人会堂と対比すべき原始教会の様子がある程度判明したと思われる。ローマ市内の原始教会が、ユダヤ人キリスト者と異邦人キリスト者の共生によって成り立ちつつも、その関係性がかならずしも良好でなかった様子を確認することができた。そしてその理由としては、クラウディウス帝による後49年のユダヤ人追放令が大きく影響しているという近年の議論が、もっとも説得性があるだろうとの結論に至った。上の研究を受けて、あるいはこれと同時進行する仕方で、ローマのカタコンベ出土の墓碑銘の内容の精査をも開始した。この作業においては、Harry Joshua Leon著『The Jews of Ancient Rome』を参考にしつつ、一つ一つの墓碑銘の内容をチェックする作業を開始した。まだこれは開始したばかりで結論には至っていないが、現在のところでは、墓碑銘のほとんどが死者の社会的地位や職業に言及するのでなく、ユダヤ人会堂における役職に言及するという傾向があることを発見した。これはカタコンベ自体が、非常に宗教的な施設であることを知らせているということなのかも知れないが、これに関しては、今後のさらなる調査を待たなければ最終的な判断はしかねる。
