本研究では、医学部留学生の患者とのコミュニケーションにおいて、次の2点を明らかにすることを目的としている。まず①日本語の観点から、(1)病院実習前、実習後の留学生の日本語にはそれぞれどのような特徴があるのか、(2)実習期間を経て、どのような点は改善され、どのような点は改善されないのか、この2点を解明し、医療コミュニケーションを阻害する要因は何かを明らかにする。また②患者の観点から、(1)患者が留学生のコミュニケーションに不信感を持つのはどのような点なのか、(2)実習期間を経て、変わらずに不信感を持たれるのはどのような点なのか、この2点を解明し、留学生の日本語において患者の満足度を下げる要因は何かを明らかにする。本研究では医療面接でのコミュニケーションと病院実習でのコミュニケーションの２点のデータを学年ごとに収集し、臨床実習前後の比較を行う計画である。留学生の各学年の人数は20名と少数のため、多年度の複数学年のデータを収集することで、データ量を確保すると同時に経年的な追跡調査を行う。そして得られたデータを元に、医療の現場において、意思疎通を妨げずに円滑にコミュニケーションがなされるための支援となる教材開発を行う。本研究は問診や病院実習の日本語を言語のみならず患者の視点からも分析するものである。本研究で得られるデータは、施設利用者・患者とのコミュニケーションが医師よりも濃密で必須となる他の医療系職種の日本語教育の基礎的データとなり、また研究方法・実践手法において広く応用可能であると考える。
