本年度は、パイロットテストとして、日本語を母語とする英語学習者を対象に、英語母語話者によって発音された英単語を聞かせて音節数カウント実験を行った。さらに、また、彼らにそれらの英単語を1語ずつ実際に発音してもらい、その音声データも収録した。音節数カウント実験によって得られたデータは英単語の音韻情報の特徴に応じて分析を行った。音節数カウント実験で使用した英単語は、筆者が令和元年度に学会発表した実験で使用した刺激語38語について専門家から得た助言を参考に、英単語の音節数や「強勢の強弱パターン」が極端にアンバランスな構成にならないよう、「総合的英単語発音データベース」（高山 2021）を活用して追加し、合計で70語とした。これらの英単語をアメリカ人の大学教員に発音してもらい、録音したものをランダムに並べて編集し、刺激語の音声ファイルを作成した。音節数カウントのパイロットテストの被験者は、日本語を母語とし、英語を専攻していない大学１・2年生英語学習者の合計77名で、70個の英単語の音声を聞いて、音節数を数えてもらい、その正答率を、音節の数、リズムパターン（音節数と強弱アクセントの位置のパターン）、子音結合の有無などの観点から分析し、正答率の比較的高い・低い英単語の特徴をそれぞれ探った。また、日本語を母語とする英語学習者の実際の発音パフォーマンスの実態を探るための資料として、音節数カウント実験で用いた70語の英単語をひとつひとつ発音させ、その音声ファイルを提出させた。
