项目摘要

本研究の最大の目的は、これまで埋もれていた司馬江漢の「地球分図」をはじめとした世界地理・天文関連図版に焦点を当て、その製作過程を分析することを通じて史料性や史料的価値を解明し、司馬江漢の海外情報受容過程を具体的に究明することにある。これまで特に司馬江漢「地球分図」は、洋学史研究者ですら全く注目してこなかった。しかし研究代表者の初見時には、かなり保存状態もよく、埋もれたままでは忍びない。そこで本研究では、研究課題の核心をなす「問い」として、「①「地球分図」は、江漢によってどんな過程で製作され、如何なる史料的価値を有するのか（「地球分図」の史料性と史料的価値の解明)、②江漢は世界地理・天文関連図版の製作に当たって海外情報をいかにして受容したのか(司馬江漢の海外情報受容過程の解明)、③江戸知識人の海外情報受容の実態や当時の日蘭・日魯文化交流史の在り方は、現代を生きる我々に何を示唆するのか(史料研究の現代的意義探究)」の３つを設定した。令和４年度は初年度であったので、上記の①～③に関する基礎的研究に終始した。上記①に関して、司馬江漢は、何故、どのような経緯で「地球分図」を作成したのかを明らかにするために、収集済みの「地球分図」所収の29折の図版の分析を通じ、江漢が如何なる情報や書物・地図・器物を参照して製作したのかを、各種史料と照合しながら特定し、製作過程を具体化する作業に着手した。その上で、各図から読み取れる多様な情報を引き出し、史料的価値も明らかにしようとした。上記②に関しては、司馬江漢が世界地理・天文関連図版を作製するに当たって参照した情報源・史料源の入手・閲覧ルートを、『司馬江漢全集』の著作・作品や伝記史料にあたりつつ、人的ネットワークや生涯の行動などに鑑みて考察していった。上記③に関しては、成果公表までには至れなかったが、論文公表に向けて執筆に着手している。
