项目摘要

研究初年度として、まず海外の先行研究を理論研究・実証研究に分けて整理した。理論編では、Prat and Stromberg(2011)の4区分に従い、「歪み」とも呼ばれる事実バイアス・フレーミングバイアス、「フィルタリング」とも呼ばれるイシューバイアス・イデオロギー代表バイアスごとに分類し、それぞれを基礎としてモデル化した論文について検討した。またバイアスを推進する力には、消費者がある特定の行動を取ることをメディアが好むため生じるものがあるが、このようなメディアの選好は政府や広告主など外部の第三者の圧力以外にも、メディア内部から生じるケースもあり、メディア所有者の直接的な好みが含まれる場合と記者や編集者の好みから間接的に生じる場合があることを指摘した。またメディアバイアスを惹起するもう一つの潜在的要因として消費者需要があり、消費者は自分の好みや信念と一致するバイアスを持っているメディアを選択する傾向があることも指摘した。この背後にある、なぜ消費者は確認型ニュースを求めるのかという問いに対して、委任（Delegation）、心理的効用（Psychological utility）、評判（Reputation）といった要因から説明されることを指摘した。これらは未公刊論文として手元にあり、今後論文中で指摘するか、独立の1本として刊行するか検討していくこととしている。中心となる「地方紙の記事構成と利益率等の財務成果との関係分析」については、データ収集と暫定的なな計量分析を行った。一定の成果は出たものの、理論的裏付けについては検討中であり、今後研究発表を通じて精緻化を行っていく予定である。なお前課題から派生的に生じた公共放送の研究については、首都圏と地方の比較を行う内容がメディア間の比較を行える点で本研究との関連が高く、並行して進展させていく予定である。
