ここ数十年、マイクロファイナンス部門は途上国を中心に著しく発展している。その発展は、国内外の民間投資機関と公的な投資機関による多額の資本流入により支えられてきた。これまでは、国際NGOや開発金融機関が多きく、この資本流入に貢献してきたが、しかし、最近では、商業銀行によるマイクロファイナンス機関（MFI）の買収事例が増加しており、金融包摂への影響が懸念されている。本研究では、カンボジア現地MFIの買収状況を調査し、最近の買収事例が現地MFIの貸出行動に与える影響を分析する。分析では、カンボジアの MFI 融資に関するデータを現地で収集し、Difference-in-differenceアプローチを適用して買収の影響を統計的に分析する。分析の結果、買収がMFIの貸出ポートフォリオの増加に寄与した一方で、買収後はMFIの貸出配分が割合として地方から都市部へ移行したことが判明した。したがって、商業投資家による買収による所有権と所有構造の変更は、MFIのミッションドリフトを引き起こす可能性があることも示唆される結果といえる。貧困層に対する貸出を持続させるためには、社会志向の高い国際投資家からの投資を促進するための政府の取り決めが必要であることが示唆できる。
