高齢視覚障害者への介護サービス提供の実態（課題とその背景）を把握するため、1)インタビュー調査と2)アンケート調査を実施した。1)インタビュー調査では、高齢視覚障害者に対する介護サービスや相談業務に従事している介護専門職6名と、高齢視覚障害者４名にインタビュー調査を行い、インタビュー内容の分析には、インタビュイーの逐語録に対する質的分析（演算的Thematic analysis）を用いた。その結果、「視覚障害に対する配慮の不十分さ」という課題と、その背景要因として、介護専門職が持つ視覚障害に関する情報や知識の要因(個人レベル)と、多職種連携や事業所の相対的不足など地域レベルで取り組む要因(地域レベル)が明らかとなった。2)アンケート調査では、1）で抽出された課題とその背景に対する介護専門職の認識を明らかにするため、オンラインアンケート調査を実施した。オンライン調査会社にモニター登録している者のなかから介護専門職（看護師、介護福祉士、ケアマネジャー、理学療法士、作業療法士）を対象者として絞り込み、アンケートへの回答を求めた。最終的に1011名から有効回答が得られた。記述統計を算出した結果、5-8割の対象者から、1)インタビュー調査で明らかとなった「課題」や「背景要因」の存在を否定する回答が得られた。インタビュー調査とアンケート調査の内容を混合研究法の手法に則り比較検討した。その結果、高齢視覚障害者への介護サービスでは、視覚障害に対する不十分な配慮という課題が存在し、個人と地域レベルの背景要因の存在が考えられた。また、これらの課題やその背景要因に対する「無自覚性」という課題が介護専門職の間に存在すると考えられた。
