项目摘要

今年度、瀬戸市での学習支援事業（学習教室ピース）にて、学生サポーターが子どもたちに図書（絵本、図鑑、小説、写真集、ガイドブック、大学パンフレットなど）を紹介する取り組みを行なった。書籍については、学生が読んでみて子どもたちに勧めたいと思って持ち寄ったもののほか、研究代表者が委託金で購入したものもあり、一年間で10冊程度を取り上げることができた。図書紹介の手法としては、会場のホワイトボードでの情報提供（自己紹介、出身地紹介、今日は何の日、趣味・特技紹介など）の一環として行われた。ホワイトボードに図書を置き、サポーターのおすすめポイントをホワイトボードに書いた。自己紹介などに合わせた図書の紹介が行われることもあった。ホワイトボード前に図書を置いておくだけでは、子どもたちは図書に関心を示すことが少なかった。図書を紹介したサポーターが子どものところに行き、図書を勧めたり、学習の支援に付いているサポーターがホワイトボードのところまで子どもを連れて行き、一緒に図書を手にとることで、はじめて子どもと図書の出会いが生まれることがほとんどであった。本を読む習慣が乏しい子どもにとって、図書館へ行くこと自体のハードルが高いなかで、図書館に出向いたとして、そこに司書などのおすすめの本が置かれていても、子どもだけではなかなか本に興味・関心や親しみをもつことは容易ではないと思われる。本と子どもをつなぐ第３者（それは子どもにとって親しみをもち、信頼できる者）の関わりが鍵となる。サポーターを介して本と出会った子どもたちは、小学生を中心に、サポーターとの間で本を通しての会話が進んでいる。はじめて知った事柄への驚きや疑問、さらには空想の話へと話題が広がることもある。しかし、週１回2時間という制約の中で、学習もしながら、ゆっくり本を読み、サポーターとの対話に時間をかけることが難しい場合が少なくない。
