水難事故防止に必要なWater Competency（水の安全に関する総合的能力）を向上させるために，その中でも意図しない水への転落時に安全に陸上へ戻るためのSafe Exit（安全な水からの脱出）についての一般大学生の現状について調査した．その一方で，新型コロナウィルス感染拡大防止を目的とした渡航自粛などの観点から，海外へ渡航し，水難事故防止に関する研究者との意見交換及び，国際学会への発表については実施することができなかった． そのため，当年度の研究実績としては国内における水難事故防止に関する研究及び国内学会においての発表にとどまることとなった．また，国内における水難事故防止に関する研究においても同様に，新型コロナウイルス感染拡大防止を目的として，大人数の被験者を一度に測定を実施することはできなかった．このため，測定装置購入に関する制約が生じ，新しい測定装置を購入しての大規模な測定の実施は断念せざるを得なかった．しかしながら，従前の測定装置を活用することで，安全な水からの脱出に関する調査測定を年間を通じて繰り返すことで，当初目論見とほぼ同様の被験者数を確保することができた．特に水からの安全な脱出に関しては，脱出する際の壁の形状のみならず，壁の高さについても変化させ調査することができた．本研究の結果から，当初の予想に反して， 泳力の有無は水からの脱出に際して大きな影響を与えず，その一方で 男性の方が女性に比べて優位に脱出しやすい，という結果を得た．さらに，ライフジャケット等を着用した場合は，水着状態に比べると優位に脱出しにくいという結果を得た．水難事故発生防止を目的として，ライフジャケット等の着用は推進されている一方で，水難事故が発生し，岸などに到着した際は，ライフジャケットを着用していく方が岸などへの脱出には悪影響がある可能性が示唆された．
