ダンスや合唱に代表されるような、複数の個人が時間的・空間的に身体の動きを同期させる現象（以降、運動同期）は、社会では古くから文化普遍的に見られてきた。そしてこの運動同期は、互いへの友好感情や信頼行動を生み、それが集団成員間の社会的絆を深め、凝集性を高めるという向社会的効果を持つことが実証的に示されつつある。これを受けて本研究では、運動同期が人々の間の文化的情報の伝達にも影響を及ぼす可能性を検証する。そして二者が身体の動きを同期させた場合、同期させない場合よりも、一方が持つ信念・選好のもう一方への伝達が促進されるという仮説を立てた。この仮説の検証のために初年度は、運動同期の向社会的効果を確認することを目指した。特に、新型コロナウィルス感染症の影響が続いており、実験室での対面実験に困難が伴うため、運動同期の効果を検出するオンライン実験パラダイムを確立することを目的として研究を実施した。その結果、参加者がオンライン上で提示されるモデルと指の動きを合わせる場合（高同期条件）には、合わせない場合（低同期条件）よりも、モデルとの共同作業の感覚、モデルへの好意、類似性の感覚などが高かった。この結果は、本研究で開発したオンライン上の課題により、運動同期の向社会的効果を検出できることを示唆している。2年目以降、初年度に開発したパラダイムを用いて、運動同期の向社会的効果を更に確認するとともに、文化的情報の伝達に与える影響を検討する予定である。
