1.本研究の対象者は、国際協力事業団の協力を得て、青年海外協力隊に参加している平成9年度2次隊(平成9年12月赴任)から平成10年度1次隊(平成10年度7月赴任)までの保健婦隊員16名である。研究対象者の派遣地域別人数は、アジア・中近東地域5名、アフリカ地域7名、中南米地域4名である。派遣前には、対象者全員に研究者が面接調査を行い、対象者の背景についての基礎データを得ている。2.対象者が任地へ派遣後は、質問紙を4〜5ヶ月ごとに送付し返答を得ている。一部質問紙が届かなかったり、返送されなかったことがあったが、概ね順調に返答を得ている。調査内容は、活動中期〜後半期における具体的なアクションプランの計画・実施・評価という国際協力活動の保健看護過程に焦点をあている。3.平成11年12月下旬に、平成9年度2次隊の3名が帰国し、2名は面接調査を行った。1名は帰国後面接を行い、1名は帰路変更途中に、研究協力者がタイで面接した。残りの1名については、日程調整が困難になったため、郵送による調査とし、返答を得ている。帰国時の調査では、活動の評価、対象者にとっての活動の意味や今後の展望などとした。4.平成9年度3次隊は、3月下旬から4月に帰国予定であり、帰国後の面接を予定している。2名の任期延長が決定しているため、引き続き調査する。また、平成10年度1次隊の帰国予定が平成12年7月頃になり、郵送による質問紙調査を次年度も引き続き継続する。5.看護職が国際協力活動を行うにあたって、初期における生じやすい困難さや対処について分析中であり、今後さらに縦断的あるいは、横断的に分析を行う予定である。
