1.図化→土佐林コレクションの代表的な衣服を、5分の一の縮小で図化して、切り伏せ、刺繍の位置、布剥ぎ位置、縫製順序を記録した。2.衣服全体、布地の様子、縫いの状況の観察と記録→布地の様子、縫いの状況は、拡大カメラで観察しながら、ビデオプリンター、カメラで記録した。衣服によっては、かなり小さな布片を剥ぎ合わせているものもある。基本的には、左右対称の剥ぎを原則としているが、布が足りないときは、適宜応用している様子が伺われる。また切り伏せは大きな布は使わず、小布をうまく使いこなしている。中には、かなり劣化した生地の良い部分だけ取って使用したと思われるものもあった。3.劣化の観察と記録→劣化表を作成し、部位別の損傷内容を個々に把握した。このコレクションは本学に収納された際に、クリーニングに出されている。汚れが比較的顕著でないのはそのためである。しかし、折ってたとう紙に収納されているので、皺、折れがかなり見受けられる。当初より劣化した絹地を使って仕立てているものもあるので、収納方法による劣化の促進が懸念される。4.本コレクションの劣化の特徴→コレクションをつぶさに観察していくと、日々の生活の中で作られ、着用され伝世したものであることがわかる。劣化表を今後パソコン処理し、全体の傾向をより鮮明にする必要がある。今後全コレクションの劣化表を作成し、他のアイヌ衣服とも比較し検討していきたい。
