第二年度となる平成26年度も、継続して東インド・オディシャ州と西ベンガル州での現地調査を実施した。25年度に収集した資料を各自で考察・検討した結果を踏まえ、併せて研究協力者などから提供された情報に基づいて、まだ十分な報告がなされていないオディシャ・西ベンガル両州の仏教遺構および遺品について踏査・実見を行なった。それらを通じて、以下のような知見・問題点を得た。1. 他地域に関してもしばしば指摘される点であるが、東インドについても短報としてのみ報告されている事例では、遺構・遺品の比定に相当の混乱がある。(とくに仏教関連遺品とヒンドゥー教関連遺品において、その傾向が強い)2. コナーラク近郊カジプルの現地祠堂に祀られている出土品には、報告例の少ない密教尊格が認められる。現地周辺地域には、他にも村や公共施設で管理する出土品が点在する3. ガンジス支流域であるモガルマリ遺跡は、発掘中遺構の概形からオディシャ州の既発掘の仏教遺跡との類似が認められる。しかし、各種出土品からはガンジス中流域との関連がうかがえる点、ベンガル地方の仏教遺跡と同様に遺構下部に装飾プレートが嵌入される点には留意する必要がある4. ベンガル湾に面したガンジス最下流域には、パーラ朝期以前の遺品が多く散見されるが、聞き取り調査では後期密教尊格の出土例もあったことが確認されたなお、当該調査直後に研究代表者が入院、その後死去したため、平成26年度中に調査後の研究連絡会は実施できていない。
