本研究は、サ系指示詞で受けた先行状況を条件として提示し、順当な内容を後続させる接続表現（以下、サ系接続表現）の、歴史的変化の過程と背景を明らかにすることを目的としている。特に、サラバやサヨウナラ（バ）など、順接仮定条件を表すサ系接続表現が“別れの挨拶語”に変化する現象（以下、“別れの挨拶語”化）を事例として、調査・分析を行うものである。今年度は、サラバが“別れの挨拶語”化する条件を探るため、サラバとサレバの比較を実施し、以下の成果を得た。（ⅰ）サラバの後続表現が意志・命令表現に集中するのに対し、サレバの後続表現は殆ど意志・命令表現を取らないことを明らかにした。サラバと意志・命令表現との共起が多いことは従来指摘されてきたが、順接確定条件の表現であるサレバと比較することで、それが順接仮定条件としての特徴である可能性が見出された。（ⅱ）サラバが主に新情報を受けて発話されるのに対し、サレバは殆ど新情報を受けて発話されないことを明らかにした。新情報とは新規に導入された相手の発話や周囲の状況などである。本研究により、新情報を受け取って意志・命令表現を後続させることが、順接仮定条件のサ系接続表現が“別れの挨拶語”化する条件であった可能性が指摘できる。この見通しは、“別れの挨拶語”化するサ系接続表現が順接仮定条件を表す表現に限られる理由を解明するうえで重要である。従来、語史として記述されることが多かった「サ系接続表現の“別れの挨拶語”化」という現象に対し、条件表現やモダリティ表現といった文法的な側面からも説明が与えられることになる。この点において、今年度の本研究の成果は、サ系接続表現の歴史的研究の発展に寄与したと考える。
