At the base of the previous work of catalyst design in carbonyl-ene cyclization & tandem acetalization, we are exploring the proper catalyst systems for the asymmetric polyene cyclization. At first, we are focusing on the design of the LBA catalyst for the cyclization in the single-ring formation and wish to further expand it to the polyenes or functional polyenes in the near future. We’ve explored several combinations of the chiral phosphoric acids with diverse Lewis acids to examine the reaction below. So far, we’ve already succeeded the excellent E/Z selectivity and moderate enantioselectivity in the initial screening of the standard reaction.
