今年度はラオスに渡航し現地調査を実施した。具体的には、ラオス首都ヴィエンチャンやその周辺地域の農村および寺院において、ラン科植物の着生状況に関する森林調査手法の検討と、地域住民に対するラン科植物の採集や利用に関する聞き取りを行った。その結果、寺院に自生する樹種が当該地域において優占していた樹種であることや、これまでの調査で見つけられなかったラン科植物を記録する事ができた。2022年の間は、世界的な感染症の流行に伴い、薬用ランの売買に関する活動は観察されにくかったが、2023年になり、中国の開国に伴った中国人の往来の活発化によって、市街地の中国人街や幹線道路沿いなどにおいて、薬用ランの販売が再開しつつあることが分かった。ヴィエンチャン県での調査では、ラン採集活動を行う少数民族やその周辺の地域住民から、ラン採集に関する情報を得ることができた。今年度の現地調査は調査地の選定や調査手法の検討、簡易的な聞き取り調査と、予備調査的な意味合いが強かったが、今年度の成果は次年度の本調査の遂行に有益であると考える。今年度までの成果については、2023年3月にタイで開催された「NERPS Conference 2023」において「Wild Orchid Use and Distribution in Lao PDR.」という題目で英語で口頭発表を行った。また、同月広島県竹原市で開催された「第28回生態人類学会研究大会」において、「ラオスにおけるラン科植物の自生状況と利用」という題目で口頭発表を行った。
