1、日本政府が構想しその実現に向けて働きかけた朝鮮永世中立共同保障が壬午事変以降の日本政府の東アジア政策の基軸的位置を占めていたことを対朝鮮、対中国、対欧米諸国への対応を分析することで実証的に明らかにした。これまで、日本の基本的朝鮮政策が朝鮮領有化にあったとする通説的見解はその為に必要な軍備拡張に向けた時間稼ぎをするために日本政府が朝鮮永世中立化を案出したに過ぎないと極めて否定的に捉えてきたが、そのような通説的見解の論拠は成り立たないことを明らかにした。2、ロシアの極東政策積極化条件の漸進的整備と朝鮮内部の混乱、中国の近代化路線の挫折などの政治情勢などとの関連で、日本政府の朝鮮永世中立協同保障構想が日清共同朝鮮内政改革論へと変化した背景を明らかにし、それは日本・朝鮮・中国といったアジア3国の協調を基礎とする東アジア国際秩序の安定化構想であったことを明らかにした。3、次いで日清共同朝鮮内政改革構想の実現を期して日本政府が積極的政策を展開したことが日清戦争の直接的要因の一つとなったこと並びに、日清戦争開戦過程を大幅に再構成し直す必要性を明らかにした。1882年に壬午事変から1894年日清開戦までの日本の東アジア政策を朝鮮永世中立化構想の展開を軸に統一的に捉え返すという視座を得ることができた。今後の課題:以上の実績を踏まえて、日本の朝鮮政策の基軸が、朝鮮永世中立化から朝鮮支配へと転換してゆく過程を朝鮮内政改革との関連で政治外交史的に検討することである。
