项目摘要

「交付申請書」の研究目的・研究実施計画に基づき、本年度は①第一次世界大戦後における民間航空の政治的位相、②昭和戦前期における国際航空秩序の建設、という二つの課題を中心に取り組んだ。これを達成するため、国会図書館憲政資料室・外務省外交史料館、防衛省防衛研究所などの所蔵史料の調査を中心に、公刊史料やその他の収集史料との照合を行った。①では、第一次世界大戦後における民間航空行政機構の確立と航空軍縮問題への展開という二つの問題の検討を通じて、国際的な軍縮潮流の下における総動員体制の形成過程を分析した。①の研究成果は論文にまとめ、学術雑誌に投稿・査読を経て、掲載が内定している。②では、昭和戦前期における航空行政一元化構想の展開と国際航空交渉の模索という二つの問題を相互連関的に分析することを通じて、帝国日本において国家戦略の選択肢が漸減する構造を描出した。②の研究成果は学会で報告し、現在学術雑誌に投稿中である。この二つの課題に続き、通時的課題である軍の政治的台頭という問題について、③戦間期の日本陸軍についての研究史整理と展望、④リットン調査団への対応からみる日本陸軍の自画像、というテーマを英語で発表する機会も得た。③についてはオーストラリアにおける日本研究の第一人者であるサンドラ・ウィルソン教授、ロバート・クリブ教授に招待されテンプル大学におけるシンポジウム「ICAS Event War Crimes and the Japanese Military, 1941-1945」で、④については東京大学現代日本研究センターで「Self-portrait of the Imperial Japanese Army」と題して報告を行った。
