项目摘要

2022年度の研究業績は、学会発表（化学史学会）1回、エッセイ・レビュー1本投稿を投稿した。さらに論文1本、研究ノート1本を執筆し投稿「予定」である。以下、発表したものを中心に、研究実施状況を研究計画に照らして記述する。「イギリスのヘゲモニーにおける鉄道ゲージの諸問題：統治性・地理・科学技術」を遂行課題として、本年度は主に理論的土台の構築と先行研究の整理に取り組んだ。本研究は、鉄道史、科学技術史、社会学、思想史など分野横断的な知見が求められるため、それぞれの研究をレビューする必要があった。本研究は、そうした基盤の上に、技術規格や振る舞いの「標準化」を基盤とした統治実践に着目した上で、さらに社会学的な課題として国民国家を越えた空間としての「帝国」に鉄道建設を位置付けることにある。そのため、2022年度は、イギリス帝国のなかでも、中心的な植民地であったインドの鉄道の歴史的概要を先行研究に基づいて整理・概観しつつ、2022年7月に化学史学会で発表を行った。英語圏においては、インドの鉄道史研究は経済史の文脈で盛んにおこなわれているものの、日本においてはインドの鉄道史研究は手薄な状況である。さらに、インドの鉄道は帝国統治のコストの観点から、初期からの「標準化」に失敗した事例でもある。その意味で、興味深い事例を提供している。さらに、「標準」という科学技術史上の課題とその歴史を概観するために、『化学史研究』にエッセイ・レビューを執筆した。日本における鉄道史研究は、経営史・経済史が中心となっており、技術史的な観点はあまり注目されていない。そのため、「標準」というものが持つ特質とその歴史を振り返っておくことは、研究課題上の重要な要素となった。
