本研究は、完了形やその他の時制形式と比較しながら、完了進行形が表す意味的・語用論的特徴をそれぞれの時制形式が持つ時間構造の観点から体系的に説明することを目的とする。本年度は、(1)現在完了形のみがニュース価値のある出来事を描写できるように思われる現象について、論文で研究成果を発表し、(2)英語の条件文の未来完了形に対応する日本語の時制表現として、通常、英語の完了形の対応表現と言われている時制形式「タ」ではなく、「ことになる」が用いられる事例について、国際学会で発表を行った。(1)については、先行研究による記述と収集したデータをもとに現在完了形と現在完了進行形を比較し、時間構造の観点から現在完了形特有の語用論的機能について分析した。現在完了形は「過去の出来事の完結を保証する」時間構造を持つ。話し手はすでに終わった出来事に対してニュース価値があるかの判断がしやすいため、現在完了形はニュース価値のある出来事を描写できる。一方で、現在完了進行形は「過去の出来事の完結を問わない」時間構造を持つ。話し手が完結していない出来事に対してニュース価値を判断することは困難であるため、現在完了進行形はそのような出来事を描写することができないことを明らかにした。(2)についても、時間構造の観点から日本語の時制形式「タ」と「ことになる」、そして、英語の未来完了形を詳細に分析した。英語の未来完了形は、基準となる時点(基準時)よりも先行する出来事と、当該出来事の結果生じる基準時に当てはまる状態を捉えることができる時間構造を持っている。日本語の場合、時制形式「タ」は、基準時より先行する出来事しか表さない時間構造を持つが、「ことになる」が基準時に当てはまる結果状態を捉えることができる時間構造を持つため、英語の未来完了形の対応表現として用いられることを明らかにした。
