これまでの研究をふまえ、都市内の自然緑地が少ないほど被食防衛形質の頻度が低下するという仮説を検証した。自然緑地の配置など景観要素が異なる都市におけるシロツメクサ被食防衛形質の空間分布を比較し、都市適応における被食防衛形質の空間分布パターンを明らかにすることを目的とした。自然緑地の配置やコンクリート被覆率等の景観要素が異なるように、都市中心から郊外農耕地帯を含む旭川市、釧路市、函館市 それぞれの各所個体群からシロツメクサを定量採取した。シロツメクサは被食防衛形質をもつ個体と持たない個体に分かれる多型のため、Feigl-Anger アッセイにより遺伝子型を判別し、都市から郊外にかけての被食防衛形質頻度の空間変異を調べた。また、被食度や生育地の開空度のデータや、GIS データベースより気温や積雪深などの景観データを得て、被食防衛形質の集団内頻度を変化させる要因を統計解析により明らかにし、被食防衛形質集団内頻度の空間変異の予測モデルを構築作成した。また、これらデータと、これまでの研究で得られたデータを比較・統合した解析を行い、景観要素と都市適応における形質の空間分布パターンを明らかにしようとしている。 また、都市部集団と郊外部集団を用いる相互移植実験により局所適応を検出すると共に、都市全体でどれだけ遺伝的交流が行われているのかを明らかにするため、集団遺伝学的解析を行っている。これらの研究成果により、複雑かつ不均質な都市環境が生物の進化に及ぼす影響の実態についての理解を大きく深化させることができる。
