令和4年度はイギリスでの調査を予定していたが、コロナ禍により海外への渡航が困難であったこと、また同様にイギリスにおけるアーカイブが平時とは違う運用になっていたことから（主に感染予防のための利用者制限、また人員不足による開館日数の削減）、イギリスへの渡航は断念した。しかし一方で、調査を予定していたナショナル・アート・ライブラリーを併設しているヴィクトリア・アンド・アルバートミュージアムのキーパーであるアンナ・ジャクソン氏が来日したことから、対面で情報収集、意見交換を行うとともに、令和5年度の現地調査についての助言を得た。また、グラスゴー大学美術史学科のシニアレクチャラー兼同大学附属ハンテリアン・アート・ギャラリーホイッスラー関連学芸員であるパトリシア・ドゥ・モントフォート氏とオンラインでミーティングを行った。同氏は美術館・博物館・美術商・紳士クラブなどが開催したロンドンの展覧会について総合的かつ精緻な研究を行なっており、詳細の検索が可能なExhibition Culture in London 1878-1908(University og Glasgow)をオンラインで公表している。そこで、ドゥ・モントフォート氏に本研究の主旨、研究計画を説明し、意見交換を行うとともに、美術商による展覧会やセールカタログについての情報を得た。以上に加えて、19世紀から20世紀初頭にかけてのアートマーケットや日英経済交流に関する基礎文献を収集した。また、美術商が開催したと考えられる日本美術の展示会、価格表示がされているという記載のあるセールカタログに関する所蔵等について情報収集し、リスト化を行った。
