1997年に日本AS研究会は我が国での血清反応陰性脊髄関節炎(SpA)の有病率、罹患率を求める目的で第2回全国規模アンケート調査を施行した。日本全国を9地区に分け、各地区調査監督者が地区内AS病院を訪れた全てのSpA患者である。集まった638人のSpA患者(男女比3/1)の内訳は強直性脊椎炎63.4%、乾癬性関節炎12.8%、反応性関節炎4.2%、分類不能SpA5.9%、炎症性腸疾患3.4%、掌蹠膿包症7.3%、SAPHO症候0.5%であった。我が国におけるSpA有病率は6/10万人・年と推定された。Amor診断基準、ESSG診断基準の日本人SpAにおける感受性はそれぞれ83.5%、85.7%であった。その結果、我が国のこの疾患の有病率、罹患率はそれぞれ白人の数十分の1,数百分の1と結論された。またAmor診断基準、ESSG診断基準の日本人SpAに対する有効性が証明された。

In 1997, the Japanese AS Research Association conducted the second nationwide survey on the prevalence and incidence of seronegative spinal arthritis (SpA) in China. All SpA patients were interviewed by regional investigators and supervisors in nine regions across Japan. Among the 638 SpA patients (male to female ratio 3/1), 63.4% had ankylosing spondylitis, 12.8% had psoriatic arthritis, 4.2% had reverse arthritis, 5.9% had unclassified SpA, 3.4% had inflammatory bowel disease, 7.3% had palmoplantar pustulosis, and 0.5% had SAPHO syndrome. The prevalence rate in China is estimated to be 6/100,000 per year. Amor diagnostic criteria, ESSG diagnostic criteria and Japanese SpA sensitivity were 83.5% and 85.7% respectively. The results showed that the prevalence and incidence of these diseases in China were 1/10 and 1/10 percent respectively in whites. Amor diagnostic criteria, ESSG diagnostic criteria and Japanese SpA have been proven to be effective.
