本研究の目的は、近年、新たな気候変動緩和策として、世界各国で導入が進みつつあるREDD+（途上国が森林減少・劣化の抑制により、温室効果ガス排出量を減少させたり、森林保全により炭素蓄積量を維持・増加させた場合、先進国が途上国に経済的支援を行う取り組み）において、コミュニティレベルでの森林管理活動を促進する要因とそのメカニズムを明らかにし、コミュニティレベルでの有効な森林管理の在り方を提示することにある。具体的には、カンボジア国モンドルキリ州で実施されているREDD+プロジェクトを事例とし、プロジェクト対象村4村において、それぞれREDD+コミュニティ委員会および資源利用者30世帯を対象とした質問紙調査およびインタビュー調査を実施するとともに、プロジェクト関係者（環境省の役人・レンジャー、警察官、NPO職員）へのインタビュー調査を実施し、定量的・定性的分析を行うものである。初年度である2022年度は、文献やカンボジア政府・プロジェクト関係機関発行の報告書をレビューし、カンボジアにおけるREDD+の動向や事例プロジェクトの進捗状況について理解を深めた。また、カンボジアにて現地調査を実施し、事例として取り上げるREDD+プロジェクトのプロジェクト対象村4村において、それぞれREDD+コミュニティ委員会および資源利用者世帯を対象に、質問紙調査およびインタビュー調査を実施するとともに、プロジェクト関係者（環境省の役人・レンジャー、NPO職員）にもインタビュー調査を実施した。
