2022年度は、本課題の主要な調査地である中国における新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大による渡航制限やゼロコロナ政策終了後の中国国内での急激な感染拡大と、中国で外国人による学術調査への締め付けが厳しくなっていることにより、予定していた現地調査を実施することができなかった。また、同様の理由により中国農業をテーマとした前年度の代表者科研費を延長していたため、そちらを実施することを優先した。中国調査の再開の見通しが立たなかったため、今年度は比較研究の対象として国内の福島県、山梨県、群馬県等で条件不利地域の農村振興に関する関係者へのインタビュー調査を実施した。研究成果としては、中国の経済動向や日本農業に関する報告書を執筆したほか、前年度に執筆した農業政策に関する論文、日本の水資源政策に関する英文論文が出版された。2020年に出版した単著『現代中国の農村発展と資源管理―村による集団所有と経営―』（東京大学出版会）の書評が2022年4月に『村落社会研究ジャーナル』に掲載された。このほか、学術成果ではないが、開発途上国の食文化を紹介した共編著『世界珍食紀行』（文藝春秋）を出版し、編者を務めるとともに中国農村の食文化の章を執筆した。同書は多くのメディアで取り上げられた。並行して関連する資料や書籍を購入し、今後研究を進めるための準備を行った。
