ヒトは立位姿勢を保持する際、身体の重心位置の鉛直方向の投影点とほぼ一致する足圧中心（COP）を支持基底面内に保持し続ける。しかし、COPを支持基底面の外周まで移動させることはできず、実際は、その内側に存在する有効支持基底面の外周までしか移動させることはできない。本研究では、支持基底面積（BOS）に対する有効支持基底面積（LOS）の割合（LOS per BOS: LPB）と転倒の関連について検証するため、4ヶ年で3つの課題に取り組む。課題1では、LPBを効率的、且つ正確に測定するための方法を探索した。機器として、BOSの測定には足圧感知マットを、LOSの測定には重心動揺計を使用し、後者の上に前者を重ねた。測定方法として、被験者は測定器の中心にて直立立位姿勢をとり、両手を体側に揃え、両足裏が測定器から離れないようにCOPを前方に移動させた後、それを右回りに1分以内で4周（1周15秒）、姿勢制御のための反射が生じないように可能な限り大きくゆっくり回旋することとした。今後、測定値の信頼性や他のテストとの関連性などを検証し、高齢者を対象とした介入に進める。
