令和4年度（研究1年目）は、地方スポーツ推進計画に記載された国際的取組に関する特徴を明らかにするため、地方公共団体のウェブサイト上で公開されていることが確認された532の地方スポーツ推進計画から国際的取組に関する単語を含む文を抽出し、計量テキスト分析を実施した。その結果、地方スポーツ推進計画における国際的取組に関する記載は、人口規模が小さくなるにつれて少なくなる傾向が認められた。スポーツを通じた国際的取組によって地域や住民にもたらされるポジティブな変化を人口規模の小さい地方公共団体においても生み出すためには、都道府県や人口規模の大きな地方公共団体が人口規模の小さい地方公共団体を巻き込んで連携・協働できるような制度や仕組み、体制等の構築や運用が重要になると考えられる。また、国際的取組として、「選手の大会出場や活躍に向けた強化・育成等の取組・支援」と「競技大会に伴う各種交流や事前合宿誘致を通じた地域活性化」を推進していくことについて多く記載されていた。これらを具現化するためには、国際競技大会の招致・開催とこれに伴うさまざまな機会を戦略的に創出及び活用することで、ポジティブな効果を促進し、ネガティブな効果を抑制することにつながるものと考えられる。また、2001年から2020年までの間に開催されたオリンピック競技の世界選手権等について、主催する国際連盟と大会開催国とのつながりを明らかにするため、647の国際競技大会を対象とした社会ネットワーク分析を行った。その結果、20年間を通じて多くの国際競技大会を開催してきた国、2001年から2010年までの間に多くの国際大会を開催してきた国、2011年から2020年までの間に多くの国際競技大会を開催してきた国等の特徴が示された。これらの結果から、競技別の国際競技大会開催国の20年間の推移を把握することができた。
