子どもであっても自分自身の意見を表明し、知る権利がある。子どもの親が生命の危機に直面している際に、その子どもの認知発達に合わせた内容と方法で親の病気について説明していく支援は、子どもの意見の尊重、および子どもの最善の利益を守るために必要であり、特に最近では新型コロナウイルス感染症で親と死別するなど生活の基盤が揺らぐ子どもが増えている。病気の親を持つ子どもに親の病気について説明していく支援は、我が国では標準的なケアとして行われていない現状である。病気の親を持つ子どもへ親の病気について説明していく支援を展開できることが急務である。本研究は、1我が国の急性・重症疾患の親の子どもへの支援の現状と2効果的なケアを調査の上で明らかにし、3急性・重症疾患患者を親に持つ子どもへ、親の病状説明に向けた支援プログラムを開発することを目的としている。令和4年度は新型コロナウイルス感染症の感染状況の拡大により、研究協力者となる急性・重症患者に関わる医療従事者の研究協力を得ることが難しく、研究調査ができていないため、実績としてまとめられていない。R4年度は研究準備として研究協力者と協働し、量的調査（アンケート）、質的調査（実際に急性・重症患者ケアに従事している専門看護師）に対し、研究の準備を進めている段階である。臨床現場からは病気の親を持つ子どもに親の病気について説明していく支援は急務であるというニーズがあるため、感染状況が落ち着いている時に調査ができるように努めたい。
