Comparative analysis of genetic factor in Buerger disease

Buerger's Disease, Thromboangitis obliterans, is known to be a intractable vasculitis maimly involving middle size arteries of lower extremities and also vein. It also involves the aretry of upper arm and visceral arteries. The pathogenesis of Buerger's disease is atill unknown even smoking is known exacerbate this morbid condition.Inthis project, we focused in the genetic factor of Buerger's disease to know its pathogenesis especially on HLA and MIC-A in the patients of Japanese, other Asian countries, Middle East, South Americans.At the biginning, we showed HLA-DR4, 15a and 16 was significantly associated with Buerger's disease in Japanese. The we started registration of Buerger's disease from Japan, India, Thailand, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, Israel and U.S.A.according the standard criteria of diagnisis of Buerger's disease.And we held two International Conference on Buerger's Disease. 1st conference was held in Karuizawa, Japan from Novemver 4 to 6, 1997 and second congress was in Atlanta, U.S.A.from October 5 to 8,1998.We invited specialists on Buger's disease and discussed on 1) clinical views, 2) pathogenesis, 3) molecular mechanism of thrombogenesis in Buerger's disease, 4) the risk of smoking in Buerger's disease, 5) genetic factor in the pathogenesis of Buerger's disease, 6) adhesion molecules, 7) diagnosis and so on. We also discussed on Talayasu Arteritis , Temporal arteritis, and IAAA as well.Finally we reported our activity of this project in the special issue of lnternational Journal of Cardiology in 1998.
