项目摘要

2022年度もCOVID-19パンデミックの影響が残り、現地調査を行うことができなかったので、マレーシア国内のムスリムと仏教徒の関係および対話活動に見られる傾向を、関連文献の検討を通してさらに分析した。この結果以下のことが判明した。現代マレーシアにおける国家レベルの宗教言説は1980年代から推進されてきた政府のイスラーム化政策に基づくもので、これがマイノリティ宗教の「信仰の自由」を妨げる結果になっていることが報告されているが、州ごとに宗教政策が異なるため、国家レベルと州レベルで待遇が異なることも珍しくない。またイスラーム優遇とみられる状況下においても、仏教の受ける影響は他宗教（キリスト教徒やヒンドゥー教徒）に比べると小さいと言える。宗教間対話の分野においても国内の主要仏教組織が中核的な役割を担っていることが多く、特にダライラマ14世や欧米の宗教学者を定期的に招待する等、国際的な対話イベントにおけるイニシアチブが目立つ。このような行事においてマレーシア国内の宗教間関係が議論されることは稀であるが、超国家・超地域的な仏教徒のつながりを強調することがマレーシアの仏教徒の自国内での存在感を増大させる可能性もあり、今後の動向が注目される。以上のように多数派ムスリムに対する仏教徒の立ち位置は、必ずしも政治的少数派としての弱者としての一面にとどまるものではない。このことがマレーシアの仏教徒の大多数が比較的経済的に豊かな中華系であること、また（ムスリムが理解する）仏教の教えや実践の内容と関連している可能性があるのかどうかについては、今後検討していきたい。
