本研究は、メコン川開発における日本の役割を国際関係史的に分析することを通じて、冷戦期東南アジアにおける国際秩序の構築への日本の関与のありようを検討する。2022年度は、①これまでの研究成果の公表、②このテーマの延長線上に、東南アジアにおける日本の経済外交の実態の解明、という二つの課題に取り込んだ。課題①については、報告者は「メコン川開発への日本の協力　1965-1968」という内容を2022年度のSHAFR総会で報告した。国際的な場で外交史研究者との交流を進め、そして多くの専門家にも教えを請うた。また、そこでの批判を踏まえ、報告内容を論文化し、『二十世紀研究』に投稿した。課題②については、報告者はすでに東南アジア農業開発基金、ASEAN側の合成ゴム問題といった諸事例をもとに、日本と東南アジア諸国との経済関係史についての成果を積み重ねてきた。その内容も、2022年度のACAS総会、現代史研究会、東アジア日本研究者協議会国際学術大会で報告した。以上の成果に基づき、2023年度に実施予定のシンガポール、米国での資料収集とその分析結果を踏まえて修正を加えつつ、博士論文を完成する予定である。博士論文を、「冷戦変容期東南アジアにおける国際関係と日本の経済外交」をテーマとして作成する。東南アジアにおける日本が行った経済外交は、東南アジア諸国のみならず、日本自身に何をもたらしたのかを検討する。
