项目摘要

特別研究員として最後の年だった本年度は、三年間の研究の成果をまとめることができた、充実した一年だったと言える。特に、本年度は、「経済」「交換」「貨幣」といった観点から18世紀小説を論じるという統一的なパースペクティヴを獲得し、これまでの調査・研究の成果をうまくアウトプットすることができた。。７月には日本ジョンソン協会の年次大会で「経済人としてのガリヴァー」というタイトルで発表を行い、18世紀初頭当時の経済状況・経済思想との関係でジョナサン・スウィフトの『ガリヴァー旅行記』を分析した。本発表は「徹底討議：『ガリヴァー旅行記』の読みの可能性」というパネルのなかでの発表であり、このパネルへの参加を通して、多くの研究者と意見交換を行うことができ、非常に有益な学会発表となった。11月にはイギリスのノーサンブリア大学で開催された国際スターン学会で「『トリストラム・シャンディ』における摩滅と所有」というタイトルの発表を行った。ロレンス・スターンの『トリストラム・シャンディ』におけるジョン・ロックの所有論のパロディに着目することで、スターンのテクストがロックの（現代社会を支えている）所有論を脱構築していることを論じた。両発表とも、まだ内容を論文にまとめることはできていないが、近日中に論文として完成する予定である。この二つにとどまらず、「経済」や「貨幣」に着目することで、18世紀の小説や諸テクストを分析する手法は、今後も多くの成果を生み出せるはずである。11月後半にはアメリカ西海岸の大学図書館で資料調査を行い、既存の枠にとらわれず、18世紀の多様なテクストを多様な学問分野の成果を利用しながら考察するための材料を得ることができた。今後も、この三年間で得た知識と方法論をもとにして、18世紀イギリス小説の起源についての研究を進めて行きたい。
