①タイ・バンコクでのフィールドワーク2013年8月から9月にかけての1ヶ月間、タイ・バンコクにおいてフィールドワークを行った。また、滞在中にチェンマイ大学にて開催されたタイ学会に参加し、多くの研究者との議論を通してより自らの研究を研磨した。②博士予備論文の執筆以上のフィールドワークを踏まえ、博士予備論文では以下の問題を明らかにした。まず当初の計画では、タイにおける政治混乱をNGOが果たした政治的な役割の観点から調査することを試みたが、調査を進めるうちに、より大きな影響力を持つアクターとしてソンティ・リムトーンクンという人物が浮かび上がってきた。そこで急遽調査対象をソンティに絞り、この人物の行動や発言等と、実際の大衆運動に与えた影響と、言説と実態の両側面から現象を分析した。本研究のタイ研究全般に対する貢献は、次の通りである。近年のタイ政治研究にとって、今回の政治混乱は今現在もタイ政治を揺るがしており、今後もタイ政治を理解する上で要となる事柄である。この解明には、混乱の始まりである黄服に関する実証的な研究が必須であるが、しかし近年の先行研究は、黄服に関する研究が欠けていた。その点を考慮し、本論文ではソンティのスピーチや言説を実証的に分析することで、ソンティが描いていた戦略に着目した。更に、集会の実際の様子を当時の新聞や雑誌で詳細に分析することで、イデオロギーと実態の側面から、集会の政治が定番化したプロセスを明瞭に描き出すことを試みた。この点はこれまでの先行研究においては空白となっていた部分であるが、2005年9月から2006年3月の限られた期間に特化して、言説と実態の双方から現象を詳細に考察することで、この空白を補うことを可能とした。タイの政治混乱の始まりを詳細に解明したことで、タイ研究に貢献した。
