项目摘要

本年度実施した研究の概要は次の３点にまとめられる。(a) 前年度まで実施していた，英語における状態変化表現のコーパス調査の拡張：前年度行っていたBNCにおける状態変化表現の調査を，更に対象となる表現手段を増やす形で継続した。その結果，前年度に見られた傾向が引き続き確認された。つまり，多くの場合で，状態変化事象は手段などの共イベントと統合して表現されないということである。それに加え，統合する際の表現パターンに関して，イベントの種類によって表現パターンが異なるということが明らかになった。今後の課題として，どのような状態変化事象が付随要素枠付言語型のパターンを取るのかを解明していくことが挙げられる。(b) 移動と状態変化で表現パターンが変化する要因の考察：移動表現では付随要素枠付言語とされている英語だが，状態変化表現では付随要素枠付言語型の表現パターンは余り見られなかった。この要因に関して，Beaversらが提案する文法的資源の利用可能性の観点から説明ができる。つまり，英語において状態変化事象を表現する付随要素が限定されており，そのため付随要素枠付型の表現パターンを取るのは状態変化事象の中の限られたごく一部になるということである。(c)通言語的な仮説の提案：付随要素を用いて表現できる状態変化事象が非常に限定的であるという点は，通言語的に見ても当てはまると考えられる。すなわち，付随要素の定義上，前置詞や不変化詞等，閉じた類に属する語が多く，必然的に語の種類が限られるからである。このことから，状態変化表現においては動詞枠付言語型の表現パターンが基本であり，それに加えて付随要素枠付型の表現パターンをオプションとして持つか，またどの程度用いられるかが言語によって異なるという可能性が導かれる。本仮説は更に経験的なデータに基づいて実証していくことが今後の課題である。
