Urbanisation brings with it huge challenges in urban mobility and traffic management. 56% of the world's population now lives in urban areas, and resultant traffic congestion results in lost productivity through hours spent in traffic, higher costs to consumers in goods and services and devastating health impacts. Public Health England estimates the annual death toll due to air pollution associated with congestion as high as 36,000 in the UK.We propose an innovative, integrated, holistic traffic monitoring, measurement and management platform with predictive modelling capability to directly address the problems of congestion, bringing about improvements in traffic flow, reductions in air pollution and carbon-emissions, increasing productivity and lowering accident rates.
