Scindo is developing enzymes to cleave the carbon chains in waxes and plastics into molecular building blocks that can serve a broader chemicals industry. Using plastics as a feedstock to create chemicals for industries that are heavily reliant on virgin petrochemicals has a two-fold benefit of 1) unlocking value from plastics that were previously discarded as waste, and 2) decreasing the chemicals industry's reliance on virgin petrochemicals, and thereby reducing its carbon footprint
