英文摘要
Iron deficiency is a major global health issue, affecting millions of people and leading to serious health problems. In the UK, many women do not get enough iron in their diets, which is why we need innovative solutions to address this issue. Our project focuses on creating a new kind of tomato that is rich in both iron and vitamin C. By increasing the vitamin C content, we not only make the tomatoes healthier but also help the plants last longer after being harvested and make them more resistant to various stresses. This approach could provide the UK with tomatoes that are both more nutritious and more resilient. For our biofortified tomatoes to be successful, people need to accept and buy them. To understand how UK consumers feel about these super tomatoes, we will conduct surveys to learn about their knowledge, preferences, and buying habits. This research will help us understand what motivates people to buy iron-rich tomatoes and how we can meet their needs. We will use random sampling and online surveys to gather information from a wide range of people across the UK. By analyzing this data, we will identify trends and patterns that will help us create tomatoes that people will want to buy and eat.The results of our project will guide future research and help us develop better biofortified crops that can improve public health and support sustainable farming practices in the UK and beyond. Our long-term goal is to apply this model to other crops and regions, helping to enhance global nutrition and food security.
