英文摘要
The boating industry is valued at **£3.97b domestically and $45b (£33.2b) globally**, with 30m vessels owned and more than 150 million active boat users worldwide. However, the industry is suffering from **aging fleet** with significant risk to human life and the environment. The industry is also tackling **an acute shortage of skilled surveyors and significant EDI challenges**: only 2% of surveyors are women.**Our innovation originates from an acute business need to revolutionise surveying.** Our focus is on developing a product geared for digital age and emerging markets. The project intends to radically disrupt the insurer/owner/surveyor relationship by developing a mobile app: "**MIR**" (**M**arine **I**nspection by **R**emote). **MIR offers a cloud-based, harmonised condition assessment, underpinned by an AI-supported database of risk and failure modes.**By reducing travel needs, lengthening product life and improving safety, the project offers **significant environmental and socio-economic impacts**. With the built-in educational component of the app and its disrupting recruitment strategies, MIR will open the labour market to new talent and promote EDI values.
