GDA LFFM Project Summary / Abstract - PAR-20-105 – Human Food, track 2 The Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards (MFRPS) established a uniform foundation for the management of state programs responsible for the regulation of facilities including laboratory analysis for chemical and microbiological contaminants. Through this program the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s (GDA) laboratories achieved, enhanced, and maintained ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. This formed the basis for an important leap forward for state laboratories, such as Georgia, to bring their testing levels up to the status of FDA laboratories. For the GDA laboratories to maintain their accreditation and support the GDA regulatory agency as their primary laboratory, continued support is needed to offset the added expenses required for quality assurance activities as well as the ongoing upkeep of critical analytical equipment. These will enable the GDA pesticide laboratory to analyze human food and continue sample flow to ensure Global Food Safety initiatives. The results of these food safety monitoring activities will be submitted in a national database repository and violative adulterations will be subject to appropriate regulatory action. This grant will allow GDA laboratories to maintain accreditation to international standards, protect the public by analyzing samples for contaminants, and contribute to an integrated national food safety system.
