This project brings closer to market a key hydrogen barrier containment technology with funding the installation of an electroforming pilot line for the manufacture of thin, lightweight metallic liners for pressurised hydrogen storage vessels. These liners are then over wrapped with carbon fibre for structural integrity.The project builds on successes from a previous APC funded feasibility project and now sets to help Ultima Forma mature the manufacturing process from prototype through to pre-production.Electroforming offers a novel approach to hydrogen containment. Electroformed barriers made using an electro-deposition process build material in an additive process that is dense, closely packed atoms making it ideal as an effective hydrogen barrier.The electroforming process this project delivers will give Ultima Forma and the UK vital new technology to assist a range of transport and energy sectors with enabling technology to help develop cutting edge products.The project will also help recruit a chief engineer and fund ongoing product development.
